Frequently Asked Questions
There are a lot of questions to be asked when you're investing in a new fence. Below are some of the most common questions we get. Please reach out if you have any other questions.
HOW MUCH DOES A NEW FENCE COST?
This is the most common question, but it is the most difficult to answer. Fence Pricing varies a lot depending on the size of the project, what material is used (pressure treated or Cedar), the style of fence, and what obstacles are in the way. Contact us now for a free estimate!
DO YOU WORK WITH HOA'S?
HOA's often require their own permitting and have restrictions on permited
HOW DO YOU SET YOUR POSTS?
Our standard is to use pressure treated pine 4x4s set in concrete (dry packed) for all wooden fences. Depending on gate sizing and location in fence, 4x6s or 6x6s are used.
For a longer life, and higher cost, we also offer metal "PostMaster" posts.
DO YOU USE SCREWS OR NAILS TO HANG YOUR BOARDS?
We use high quality hot-dipped galvanized, ring shank nails. We use 3-1/4" nails for stringers and 2" nails for pickets. Galvanized nails are rated for use in treated wood, and resist streaking. And ring shank nails have increased grip to reduce nail pop outs.
DO I NEED A PERMIT FOR MY NEW FENCE?
It depends. If you are in Columbus you generally do not need a permit. Most surrounding towns and neighborhoods do require permits. We regularly pull permits for our customers and are happy to help.
DO YOU REMOVCE FENCES?
Yes, we remove and dispose of all types of fences.
THERE ARE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES NEAR MY FENCE, IS THAT AN ISSUE?
We will call 811 to have all utilities marked before we start working on every fence. We are not permitted to dig within 24" of marked utilities. Generally fence designs can be tweaked slightly to miss utilities, but holes that are required to be dug by hand will increase labor costs.
WHICH SIDE OF THE FENCE FACES OUTWARD?
Traditionally, the finished side of the fence faces outwards and the side with the supporting members (Posts and Rails) faces inwards. The city of Columbus ALLOWS for either direction, but most surrounding towns and neighborhoods REQUIRE the pickets to face outwards.
DO I NEED A PERMIT FOR MY NEW FENCE?
It depends. If you're within the city of Columbus you do not need a permit for most fences. Most surrounding towns and neighborhoods do require permits. We regularly pull permits for our customers and are happy to help.
DO YOU WORK THROUGH THE WINTER?
Yes, we are dedicated to working year round, including the winter. However, we may need to temporarily stop working if there is a bad winter storm or if there is extreme cold.
